About us

Picture
Personalised healthcare.

We focus on herbs and homeopathy as these modalities are able to assist the body’s own innate healing mechanisms.
We also have training in pranic healing techniques, which we have found to be an effective self-healing tool.

We endeavour to provide our patients with true, profound, long-lasting healing.

Bachelor of Science (Botany), James Cook University
Advanced Diploma of Western Herbal Medicine, Australasian College of Natural Therapies
Registered with the National Herbalists Association of Australia

Raymond has a deep connection with the plant world. After graduating as a botanist in 2005, he worked in the scientific field before focussing on plant medicine and the healing principals of nature.

Ray's areas of expertise are in the treatment of arthritis and inflammation, drug addiction and detoxification, mental and emotional wellbeing and gastrointestinal health. Ray's treatments use clinically supported herbal medicines and supplements that are individually formulated and prescribed to meet the specific needs of each patient.

Raymond and Sarah have spent the last 20 years collaborating and have partnered in various projects, mostly involving plants and the sciences. The Palm Valley Natural Medicine Clinic was borne from acknowledgement of indigenous botanical medicines, understanding of the ecological and anthropological benefit of locally grown herbal medicines, and years of study and dedication. Raymond and Sarah regularly collaborate with other local practitioners in the Kuranda region, including naturopaths and homeopaths Wayne and Anwen Harris-Gallichan, and homeopath Lisette Frijters.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between herbal medicine and pharmaceutical medication?

Many herbs are used in the same way as pharmaceutical medicines, however, are natural with less side effects. For example, the active constituent of the pharmaceutical drug Aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid) is derived from salicin that is extracted from Willow trees. The advantage of using Willow medicine in its whole form is that it contains multiple active components that work together synergistically to provide a broader mechanism of action, and does not cause damage to the gastric mucosa like Aspirin.

Can Homeopathy and Herbs be used in conjunction with pharmaceutical drugs?

Yes.
They are termed Complementary Medicines for a good reason; because they are often used successfully to complement and support allopathic treatment. However, some herbal medicines can interfere with ph
armaceutical drugs. That is why it is important to always consult with a professional.

Are there side-effects to Homeopathy?

When a person is suffering from a disease that affects deeper tissues, the body may need to express the dis-order in a more superficial way as it goes through the "direction of cure" - old suppressed symptoms may return, or new superficial symptoms like a cold or a skin rash may occur. These are not side effects per se, but a crucial part of the journey of healing.
Sometimes it is the case that things need to get worse before they get better – aggravations can occur as a curative response to a well-prescribed remedy.

When a wrong remedy is taken, the body can produce symptoms that are not in accordance to the direction of cure. These symptoms are short lived and cease when the remedy is stopped. Talk to your practitioner if you have any concerns. We always follow the Law of Minimum Dose.
